You Don’t Need a New Road—Just Better Shoes

At 54, I’ve tripped more times than I care to admit.

Not just the literal kind (though I’ve had plenty of those). I’m talking about the moments where you’re certain you’re on the right path—only to realize you’ve been walking in someone else’s shoes the whole time.

For years, I wasn’t even walking my own path.
I was taking on roles just because someone asked.
Saying yes to other people’s dreams.

It felt noble. Like I was doing the right thing.
But deep down, it wasn’t me.

I wasn’t building my vision.
I was holding up someone else’s.

The Trap of “Good Enough”

It’s easy to fall into this trap, especially in the nonprofit world.

You take on work that’s meaningful, urgent, and always, always important.
But at some point, you look up and wonder:

Whose dream am I building?
Is this really what I want—or just what I’ve been told matters?

For years, I told myself I was doing everything right.
Working hard. Saying the “right” things.
Staying professional.

But here’s the truth: I wasn’t moving forward.
I was stuck. Tiptoeing.

The Moment Things Changed

There wasn’t a single epiphany. No dramatic turning point.

Just a slow, creeping realization that all those roles I’d said yes to weren’t mine.
And if I wanted to create real change—if I wanted to step into my own vision—I needed to stop playing it safe.

So, I made a choice.

No more tiptoeing. No more hiding behind what felt comfortable.

I stopped following other people’s paths and started building my own.

Why I’m Laser-Focused Now

Today, I work with nonprofits in their growth phase.

The ones ready to stop surviving and start leading.
The ones bold enough to own their mission—and their story.

Because I’ve been where they are.
Overwhelmed. Pulled in too many directions. Stuck.

And I know this: The path doesn’t matter if you don’t own it.

What matters is how you walk it.
With clarity. With boldness. And with the kind of story that makes people want to follow you.

Your Turn

Take a moment.

Write down one thing you’ve been afraid to say about your nonprofit.
The thing you think might make people uncomfortable.

Now say it anyway.

Because clarity isn’t always polished.
But it’s always real.

Let’s Rewrite Your Story

If your nonprofit feels stuck, overwhelmed, or like it’s spinning its wheels, I’m here to help.
Let’s create the kind of messaging that moves people—and your mission—forward.

Schedule a Fit Call today and take that first bold step.
